Day 1! I Can't feel my legs!

OK, where do I start? I slept like a log last night.. sooo comfy! I woke up at 5 o'clock ready to start my day. My roommate said I can turn the lights on and that it wont bother her or wake her up, but I am too afraid to actually do it so I was creeping around in the dark..lol I got dressed and put on my new heart rate monitor and headed for the gym for 6am.

Breakfast was iffy.. we had egg fritatta and a mix of melon and pineapple (250 cals) The first few bites were not bad, but the further I got into the dish my taste buds decided they really didn't like it too much. lol

My first class was just an introduction to the equipment for circuit training. They have a lot of great machines here! After that my schedule was as follows:

7:00: Breakfast
7:45: Hike descriptions
8:00: Leave for hike (stop sign)
11:15:Mountain
12:15:Lunch
12:45:Announcements
1:15: Lecture on Calorie Budget
2:00: Stretching basics
2:30: Pool
3:30: Circuit Training
4:30: Step-n-Pump
5:30: Dinner
6:15: Lecture on spending calories wisely

I was half dreading the stop sign hike due to the stories of past guests, but I was also excited to see it in person. The scenery was breathtaking.. so beautiful. The red mountains are completely opposite form the mountains at home, but stunning in their own way. I put on my ipod, turned it up and started on my way. I was sure to prepare myself before we left by GOBBING on the Body Glide stick to prevent blisters. It must work because I didn't get any! Yay! The beginning of the hike was an incline, but not too bad. After a while it inclines to 10% which is just insane.. The elevation incline is 1000' from start to finish. I found out that the resort is already 3000' above sea level so by the end of it we were at 4000' Needless to say it made the air quite thin and the sun quite hot.. I motored along taking pictures along the way.. bout halfway up my butt and thighs were burning like crazy, but I pushed through it. I made it to the top in 1:12:40, which was waaaay faster than I ever expected. I must have been underestimating my ability :) When I got to the top I choked up.. it was almost a euphoric feeling. Surrounded by the beautiful scenery and pushing myself so hard. I felt so proud, more proud and confident than I ever remember feeling. So amazing!

After we got back to the resort we had mountain class.. Basically you get on a treadmill and every 3 minutes you increase your sped or incline or both. Let me tell you that after climbing the stop sign hike it felt like my legs were lead, but I enjoyed the class none the less..

Lunch was really tasty. We had carrot soup (AMAZING! MMMM)for 71 cals and a bean and rice burrito with mixed greens and veggies for 260 cals.

The lectures were interesting and informative, but part of the way through I developed a brutal headache. Unfortunately the headache carried on into my pool class. I wasn't a big fan of pool, most likely because it involved a bathing suit, my headache and glaring sunshine reflecting in my eyes. It was also very rushed trying to get back to the room, dry off and change and be at the next class in 15 minutes. I am hoping I will enjoy pool more tomorrow. :S

I LOVE LOVE LOVED the circuit training class.. its pretty much just a rotation of cardio and strength training. At first I was lagging because of my headache. I did something thinking about why I was there and how much it was costing me and suddenly got my energy back..lol miraculously my headache went away!
Step-n-Pump was absolutely brutal. Now I know why they call it Step-n-Puke! It involved a lot of squats with weights after already having jelly legs form the hike and classes. All I have to say is OUCH!

Dinner was soooo yummy. We had a salmon burger with mixed greens and veggies (493 cals). The salmon burger was absolutely amazing! For dessert we had cranberry sorbet (20 cals) it was very good and refreshing :) Afterwards we had a lecture then Lianne and I headed for the hot tub in attempt to ease the muscle pain a bit.

I got to talk to my boyfriend and my son and my Dad which made my day :) I thought I would be more tired, but I feel ok. I am going to bed as soon as I am done with this though. 5am comes early!

According to my heart rate monitor the amount of calories I burned today was 6278!!!!
The amount of calories consumed: 1094 for a difference of 5184!
I dont even believe it! Maybe I got a defective one? LOL Ive never worked this hard for that many consecutive hours in my life!

Off to bed!

Brandi, You are amazing, just look what you did today!! 1 hr 12 min for the stop sign, I haven't seen anyone post doing it in that amount of time even after 4 weeks at the resort. The bad news is that you have 7 more stop sign hikes & you are suppose to keep trying to beat your time with each one of them. Yikes, you may be the only person to ever do it in 45minutes ;) Please tell Jerica what songs you were listening to on that ipod!! I will force her to download them to her music list. Glad you were able to talk with your son tonight, we're counting on skype to keep mommy close by also. Have fun tomorrow!! Paulette

That day sounds pretty intense! I went to bed at 7:30, too, but I didn't do anything active today.

Good for you for pushing through it-that's quite a serious first day.
Your pictures are amazing!

Beard says hello, and wishes you well.

Looking forward to your next update!

Hi Brandi! Glad to hear your first day was so excellent. 6278 calories!! That is awesome. According to google....one pound of fat is like 3500 calories... so 5184 calories is like 1.5 pounds. Where do I sign up?? The pictures looked beautiful from your hike and your time was great. Wow koodos. Hope your day is going well today. Hope you aren't too sore. Hopefully the heavy training keeps the blood flowing to releave those tight muscles. Look forward to hearing about your day. Remember to be good to your body...drink lots of water and rest.
